3.5-litre V6 Engine

3.5-litre V6 Engine
eneath the skin, the Murano's award-winning* 240-HP** VQ-series engine delivers more power than some V8s. And 244 lb-ft of torque at 4400 rpm. Just what you need to get up steep hills.
*Ward’s Automotive Group, January 2006
**All horsepower and torque ratings are per new SAEJ1349 (August 2004) testing methodology.

Xtronic CVT

Xtronic CVT
A Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) doesn’t shift like a conventional transmission. With its nearly infinitely variable ratios, it custom-tailors the engine’s output to suit your demands. Need to pass that big rig? Push down on the gas and the transmission will hold the engine at the optimal rpm for a rush of linear acceleration. And even though the speedometer needle will be moving swiftly, you’ll see the tachometer holding steady. On the other hand, when you’re cruising at a constant speed, the CVT will hold the rpm nice and low to maximize efficiency. And with no hunting for gears or shift-shock ruining the ride, you may never think about shifting again.

Fuel Efficiency

Fuel Efficiency
Powerful, responsive acceleration. Silky smooth shifts. And yes, better fuel economy. Murano’s Xtronic CVT™ keeps your engine running in its optimum power range so you can merge into fast-moving traffic and set the pace in more ways than one. With CVT you have an infinite number of gear ratios that keep your engine efficient at all times, and this equates to better fuel consumption.

AWD

AWD
It works like this: AWD is on every time you start the vehicle, for maximum traction. However, if road conditions don’t warrant AWD, the system switches to front-wheel drive. But, say road conditions worsen. The system switches into AWD in a tenth of a second. So no matter what happens, you’re always experiencing either the optimal capability of AWD or the optimal fuel economy of front-wheel drive. (Standard on SE and optional on SL).

Variable Intake System & Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System

Variable Intake System & Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System
Nissan's variable intake system and variable valve timing system translates into instant power at any speed, from taking off at a stoplight to merging effortlessly into highway traffic.

Multi-link Independent Rear Suspension

Multi-link Independent Rear Suspension
Manoeuvre several side-to-side turns with uncanny precision. Absorb bumps with a road-smoothing 4-wheel independent suspension. The added edge? A responsive rear multi-link design that’s directly inspired by 350Z: four links in the rear, separate placement of the rear springs and shocks, plus extensive use of aluminum components. So now your wheels maintain better contact with the pavement for sharper cornering. While the lightweight suspension helps allow for quicker reactions.

Sport-tuned Suspension

Sport-tuned Suspension
Murano SE comes with a sport-tuned suspension for an extra-firm, extra-tight ride. It features firmer springs and strut/shock absorbers.

Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC)

Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC)
Standard on SE, VDC* helps keep you on your steered path. So if your vehicle begins to oversteer (fishtail) or understeer (plow forward), this advanced system senses the change and can reduce engine output and/or apply appropriate brake pressure to specific wheels.

*VDC cannot prevent accidents due to abrupt steering, carelessness, or dangerous driving techniques, or any other reason. Always drive safely.

Traction Control System (TCS)

Traction Control System (TCS)
You'll also have the advantage of a Traction Control System (TCS) to help limit wheel spin during acceleration, specifically by reducing throttle. (Standard on SE).

Friction Reducing Measures

Friction Reducing Measures
Nissan wouldn't be a Nissan without some very advanced technologies, like friction-reducing measures (i.e., microfinishing the crankshaft and camshafts, and a super-slick coating of molybdenum on the pistons) that help your engine do more with less effort.

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
All Muranos are equipped with a 4-wheel Anti-lock Braking System that pumps the brakes faster than humanly possible in panic-braking situations. This helps prevent your wheels from locking to help you steer around unexpected obstacles.

Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD)

Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD)
Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) sends extra force to the rear brakes when it senses the additional weight of extra people in the back seat or even a full tank of gas.

Brake Assist (BA)

Brake Assist (BA)
Brake Assist — as its name implies — increases braking force, most notably in panic stops. By sensing the speed at which the driver presses the brake pedal, Brake Assist immediately applies maximum available power boost, potentially reducing the overall stopping distance by eliminating the delay caused by a common human tendency not to brake hard enough, soon enough. Letting up on the brake pedal releases Brake Assist.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System

Tire Pressure Monitoring System
Murano's Tire Pressure Monitoring System* monitors proper tire inflation for optimal performance and longer life.

*Tire Pressure Monitoring System is not a substitute for regular tire pressure checks.
